News GHAIN Leaders Meet With Howard Faculty Leaders of the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) program met with faculty of Howard University at a luncheon sponsored by Howard University Continuing Education (HUCE), the Office of International Programs (OIP) and the Pharmaceutical care And Continuing Education (PACE) Center. As part of the festivities, FHI/Nigeria Director and GHAIN Chief of Party Dr. Christoph Hamelmann and GHAIN Director of Medical Services Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim shared future plans for the program. Howard University Continuing Education (HUCE) held award ceremonies to honor Nigerian community pharmacists who took part in training programs designed to enhance their knowledge about the management of diseases. One ceremony, held July 6 at The Sheraton Abuja in Nigeria, honored pharmacists who had completed a year-long skill certification program titled, “Training for Community Pharmacists on HIV/AIDS, Opportunistic Infections and Sexually Transmitted Infections.” Another ceremony, held July 13, applauded the efforts of three clinicians from the Nigerian Ports Authority who completed a five-day training program titled, “Current Trends in the Management of Diabetes Mellitus.” Full article: http://capstone.howard.hostica.com/october/story6.html

Partnership Brings Pharmaceutical Training to Ethiopia The Pharmaceutical care And Continuing Education (PACE) Center and the Howard University School of Pharmacists are partnering with Addis Ababa University School of Pharmacy (AAU) and the Drug Administration Control Authority of Ethiopia (DACA) to enhance pharmaceutical care for people with HIV/AIDS and related diseases in Ethiopia. The partnership, funded through the American International Health Alliance’s HIV/AIDS Twinning Center, seeks to educate pharmacists and establish a Drug Information Center at AAU and another at DACA.
