GHAIN Leaders Meet With Howard Faculty

 

GHAIN Leaders Discuss Future of Program

Howard University Continuing Education (HUCE), the Office of International Programs (OIP) and the Pharmaceutical care And Continuing Education (PACE) Center brought together leaders of the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative Nigeria (GHAIN) program and faculty members of Howard University Medical School and Sociology Department at a luncheon on December 6, 2007.

Participating at the event, held at the historic Howard Hall on Howard University campus, were FHI/Nigeria Director and GHAIN Chief of Party Dr. Christoph Hamelmann and GHAIN Director of Medical Services Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim. They each presented an update and review of the GHAIN Project and shared future plans for the program with attendees.

Dr. Rosalyn King, program manager for the Office of International Programs, introduced the guests. Dr. Celia Maxwell, assistant vice president of Health Sciences and director of Howard Women Health Institute, along with Dr. Ivor Livingston, professor and acting chair of Howard Department of Sociology and Anthropology, discussed new ways to support the GHAIN project.

An overview of Howard University international outreach through the years was presented by Howard Ambassador Horace G. Dawson, director of the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center. 

As part of the festivities, Mr. Raymond Archer, interim vice president of Student Affairs, conducted an informal tour of Howard Hall and presented an overview of Howard history.

The event concluded with a wrap-up by Dr. Peggy A. Berry, director of Howard University Continuing Education, who thanked all for their attendance.

Other attendees of the luncheon were Mrs. Christina Flood, budget analyst for the Office of International Programs; Mr. Earnest Johnson, consultant for Howard University Continuing Education; and Ms. Stacy White, manager of Howard University Office of Sponsored Programs  Research Administration.
