Best Practice Manual

The primary goal of this Best Practices Guide for Project Pharmacies is to describe a mechanism for the improvement of clinical care for persons who are living with HIV/AIDS in the project's focus states in Nigeria. This is accomplished through a strengthened pharmacy system and the provision of pharmacist-directed service interventions within a framework of pharmaceutical care. It is intended that this Guide serve as a training reference to facilitate rapid scale-up in pharmacies of the health facilities involved in the GHAIN project.

Spanning from January - December, 2001, the Anglophone West Africa Project was a collaboration between the PACE Center and the Pharmacists Against HIV/AIDS/STI's in West Africa, designed to more fully engage pharmacists in West Africa in the fight against these infections. The project was funded by USAID, in support of its key intermediate objective 2.1 - improved access to quality services.

The goal of the project was to evaluate the current ability of pharmacists to provide HIV/AIDS prevention information and referral services, and to present this information to donor agencies to consider support for increased focus on pharmacists and pharmacy personnel role in these efforts.
